Like Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki before him, Nickoloz Tskitishvili has splashed on to the draft scene late. But unlike those two European NBA stars, Tskitishvili does not have monster numbers overseas. In fact, at just 19 years of age, he hasn't gotten off the bench much. Instead, Tskitishvili's draft stock is based purely on potential. A true 7-footer, Tskitishvili has a strong ballet background and it shows in his graceful and agile moves on the court. He's a small forward that can knock down the three - combine his agility, quickness, range and height, and you see why NBA scouts love the kid. Averaged under 8 points and 2 boards a game in the Italian league under former NBA coach Mike D'antoni.
Strengths of Nickoloz Tskitishvili
For Tskitishvili, it's all based on potential. 7-foot small forward can create a lot of mismatch problems. Very quick and agile. Has range that goes out to three-point territory. Good rebounder and free throw shooter.
Weaknesses of Nickoloz Tskitishvili
Still very young, still very raw. Doesn't have near as much experience as Gasol and Nowitzki coming in to the league. Defensive game needs a lot of work - hasn't shown shot blocking skills for his height. Bulk, as in, he lacks it. Has the height, but will have to put on more strength to succeed in the NBA.
Tskitishvili on the Rockets?
Rudy T scouted Tskitishvili in Italy, and like the rest of the scouts and coaches in attendance, he came away impressed. Rudy also was enamored with two kids named Nowitzki and Gasol when they were in the draft, so the Rockets may want to scoop up a guy who has drawn comparisons to both.
